Rochester, N.Y., March 19, 2021—The Jr. Amerks will introduce a Girls Program in the 2021-22 season, fielding Tier I travel teams for girls of all ages. In its inaugural season, the Jr. Amerks Girls Program will be led by former NHL player and Rochester native Stephen Gionta, who has been named Girls Hockey Director.

The Jr. Amerks are committed to providing a place to play and an opportunity to succeed and have fun for every player, regardless of their age or skill level. In addition to the existing Jr. Amerks teams, girls now have the opportunity to play on a girls-only team and compete for state and national titles. All Jr. Amerks will follow the same player development program led by Jr. Amerks Hockey General Manager Francois Methot.

“We’re giving our girls the opportunity to grow as hockey players no matter where they play in our organization,” said Gionta. “We’re creating a girls hockey program that not only encourages girls to play the game, but also provides exceptional coaching, player-focused development and opportunities for advancement beyond youth hockey.”

2021-22 season tryouts for the Jr. Amerks Girls Program 10U-12U teams will take place on Tuesday, April 27, Wednesday, April 28 and Thursday, April 29. Tryouts for 14U teams and older are scheduled for Wednesday, May 5, Thursday, May 6 and Friday, May 7. All sessions will be held at Rochester Ice Center.
